INTERNATIONAL CLAN GATHERING 2018
The 2018 International Clan Gathering will take place from 15 to 22 July 2018. It will incorporate the highlight of our annual calendar, the Lochearnhead Highland Games, on 21st July 2018, which is a great day out. If you wish to actually compete in any of the events, please let us know well in advance.
We will base our accommodation at the picturesque Loch Awe Hotel which is near Dalmally and squarely within the MacGregor homelands. It’s in the West Highlands at the foot of our ancestral Glen Strae overlooking Loch Awe. It features spectacular views of Kilchurn Castle as seen in the “No Surrender” documentary on our Clan Gregor TV web page. The hotel is also close to our archaeological digs at Stronmilchan and Tigh Mor.
The hotel is providing the coaches we will use for many of the activities and is within easy driving distance of the Western coastline. It also has its own train station with services to Oban and Glasgow and connections from Glasgow to all other stations on the rail network such as Edinburgh, Stirling and Inverness.

If you have already expressed an interest and find that you cannot come, please notify us straight away for the sake of those on the Waiting List.
Please also note that the Gathering is for Clan Gregor Society members only.
However, if you are not yet a member or need to renew your membership, you are still welcome to attend – the cost of a one year subscription (currently £17 per person) will be added to your bill.
We are planning coach tours to places such as
- the Isles of Iona and Staffa – sailing from Oban and Mull
- Appin and Lochaber – via Rannoch, Glencoe, and Glenfinnan
- Historic Argyll – including Kilmartin Glen; one of the most amazing Neolithic, Bronze Age, and Iron Age sites in Europe
- Loch Tay and Perthshire – around which many of our forebears settled
If you want to take a day off to do your own thing, that is not a problem. We cannot, however, offer partial attendance as this is not possible with the hotel.
On Friday the 20th, we will have our annual formal dinner at Castle Menzies near Aberfeldy. We also intend to visit three other sites on that day; the reconstructed iron age Crannog on Loch Tay, Fortingall village with it’s ancient yew tree and Aberfeldy Distillery.
On Saturday the 21st, we will all be going to the Lochearnhead Games to take part in the march of the clans and see traditional Highland athletic events, dancing, and piping.
Gathering Dates: Arrival on Sunday 15th July to departure on Sunday 22nd July.
We have arranged free coach pick ups from Glasgow and Edinburgh airports at approximately 4pm on Sunday 15th July with arrival at the hotel for dinner. If you are flying in to Scotland on Sunday 15th July we would suggest that your flight arrives no later than 1pm to allow at least an hour to get through immigration. On the way back the coaches will probably leave around 9-10am on Sunday 22nd, reaching the airports about noon. Please let us know if you wish to take advantage of this service.
Alternatively, there are trains from Glasgow Queen Street station to Oban which stop at the hotel.
If you are making your own way to the hotel by train or car, please do not arrive earlier than 12 noon. We do not recommend bringing a car as parking at the hotel is extremely limited.
COSTS – (The section below was written when we still had vacancies. The conditions re payment etc still apply to all those coming and will also apply to anyone on the Waiting List who succeeds in gaining a place).
If you INTEND to come we would ask you to fill out the form below as soon as possible. The form will be taken as your definitive booking form. You will receive, by return email:
- a statement of your costs (which depends on the type of room you request, number in your party, and whether you are currently a member or not, etc.)
- a request for a 15% deposit per person (non returnable) payable by 30th November 2017.
(Note: Bookings made after 1st February 2018 will receive a request for full payment.)
Cost is £725 or £800, per person, depending on whether your room has a view of the loch and whether you are a member. This includes bed, breakfast, evening meal, and tours. We will stop around mid-day at suitable places for you to eat and shop with lunch and shopping being at personal expense. As mentioned above, this is an all-in-one priced package and a lower price for partial attendance is not available.
A 15% deposit is payable by 30th November 2017 and the balance due by the start of February 2018.
NB. Please note that, as deposits are non returnable and the unexpected can happen, we strongly suggest that you take out cancellation insurance in case you are unable to come at the last moment.

Requests are subject to availability and on a strictly first come, first served basis. Please be as specific as possible and please include the number of children who may be attending.
