The program for the International Clan Gathering 2018 is beginning to take shape. The Gathering is planned to take place from 15 to 22 July 2018 (with a possible extra two days for a Hebridean cruise depending on price and agreement with members). It will incorporate the highlight of our annual calendar, the Lochearnhead Highland Games, on 21st July 2018. This is always a fabulous day out and we hope to see as many of you there as possible. (If you wish to actually compete in any of the events please let us know well in advance and we’ll do what we can to help).

Regarding accommodation, we are in discussions with hotels, specifically (but not yet finally) The Loch Awe Hotel near Dalmally. If you came to the 2014 Gathering you’ll find the area a big change from Stirling. It’s a lot quieter!  It’s in the West Highlands, at the foot of ancestral Glen Strae and overlooking Loch Awe with spectacular views of Kilchurn Castle which features in the No Surrender documentary on our Clan Gregor TV web page. It’s also close to our archaeological dig at Tigh Mor.  Oban with its ferries to Mull and the western isles is within an easy drive. The hotel also has its own station with services to Oban and Glasgow, and connections from Glasgow to all other stations on the rail network.

We plan various coach trips to places such as

– the Isle of Iona;

– Appin and Lochaber;

– Historic Argyll, including Kilmartin Glen (one of the most amazing Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age sites in Europe);

– Loch Tay and Perthshire, around which many of our forebears settled

but, if you want to take a day off to go somewhere that’s not on the program, that will not be a problem. Just let us know where you’re going.

The AGM is likely to be at the Hotel on Friday, followed by our annual formal dinner on Friday evening in Oban.

The dates are; Arrival Sunday 15th July – Departure Sunday 22nd July.

The hotel has offered coaches to collect members arriving by plane from Glasgow and Edinburgh airports on the 15th and return on the 22nd. –  “If you intend coming, please say whether you wish to take advantage of this service. There will be ONE pick up from each airport, so depending on your flights, you may have to arrange accommodation at one of the airport hotels. Alternatively, there are trains from Glasgow Queen Street station, to Oban, which stop at the hotel.”

If we use The Loch Awe hotel, the Gathering will be a little shorter than previous ones but, as mentioned above, it has been suggested that we extend the Gathering with a two day Hebridean Cruise, to include a stop at Iona, in which case we will alter the proposed program. We need feedback from members, as soon as possible, to say whether they would be willing to take part in an extra cruise.

Please keep looking at the Gatherings Page here on the Clan Gregor Society website for regular updates. If you INTEND to come it would be very helpful if you would fill out the email form below as soon as possible. (This will obviously help organisation of rooms, coaches etc).  – Please count the number of children who may be attending.

Regarding families, an obvious point to bear in mind is that 4 or 5 days of coach trips with adults may not be entirely suitable for youngsters. (That shouldn’t deter you from coming to Scotland though, doing your own thing, and then meeting us all at the Lochearnhead Games, for example. We’d be delighted to see you).

Regarding cost, we don’t have a definitive figure as yet, but it’s likely to be in the region of £ 550-600 per person depending on the numbers (but excluding the cost of the additional cruise if we proceed with it) with a 15% deposit payable by 28th February 2017 and the balance by February 2018.  – NB. We strongly suggest that everyone takes out cancellation insurance in case they are unable to come at the last moment.

As not all the rooms in the hotel have a view of the loch, we are considering charging a small premium for the rooms which do, with a commensurate price reduction for those which do not. When indicating your intention to join us in 2018, can you also let us know whether you are prepared to pay a little more for a Loch view from your room.

As well as keeping you up to date on the website, we will also send Personal News Sheets to those who are coming.

NB….Space is limited to Clan Gregor Society members onlyRSVP today!
